Here's the problem with the film Brokeback Mountain. No, not that it's about gay cowboys. The film itself was pretty damn good. Well directed. Subtlties in the acting choices. Heath Ledger's mumbly voice was a bit annoying, but you can get past that. And the cinematography was gorgeous.

So, you're thinking now that I've stuck up for this film and left little to hate. The film is good. The press and the promotion of the film is absolutely ridiculous. In the television/radio trailers, it claim that this film will impact every movies ever made after this one. What the fuck does that mean? Did you do something different in the technical aspect? No. It looked like a pretty technically simple film if you ask me. So, I'm not sure what they are talking about. 2nd bullshit statement: "Heath Ledger's performance is what Hollywood history is made of" I'm pretty sure that is a quote...yeah it's a gutsy roll to take for a Hollywood Beefcake from down under. But, he's not the 1st straight guy to ever play gay in a film. Hugh Grant did it 10 years ago as a gay man living in the 1600-1700's but had to hide it to survive. Similar premise. Hell the gay guys on 6 Feet Under aren't gay. Nobody thought that was great show for that reason alone. I just don't get it.

The promotion of the film is Bogus and leads people astray. I'm not sure it helps the film. This is the type of film where you need to let people deal with it in their own way. Let them see it for what it is. A painful love story about gay cowboys that is beautifully shot and directed. This bogus promo campaign is just to get people to the box office. And in that I feel cheated by the studio. I feel like they just want my $$$ instead of having me enjoy what otherwise is a pretty good film.
